‘Jurassic World’ director pokes fun at the film’s high heel controversy

The sequel to 'Jurassic World' is due to start shooting early next year (2017).

Jurassic World director Colin Trevorrow has poked fun at the controversy surrounding Bryce Dallas Howard’s footwear in the dinosaur reboot.

Howard’s character spent a significant portion of the 2015 blockbuster running away from dinosaurs wearing high heel shoes, a wardrobe decision which fans branded laughable and even sexist.

Tweeting at Howard earlier today (December 1), Trevorrow wrote, “See you soon,” and shared a collage of various pairs of more sensible footwear.

The sequel, which reportedly has the provisional title Ancient Futures, is due to start shooting early next year for a June 2018 release. Trevorrow will not be returning to the director’s chair, but remains on board as both writer and executive producer.

Director of the award-winning 2012 movie The Impossible, Juan Antonio Bayona, replaces Trevorrow in the hot seat.

“It will be more suspenseful and scary,” Trevorrow said of the sequel recently. “It’s just the way it’s designed; it’s the way the story plays out. I knew I wanted Bayona to direct it long before anyone ever heard that was a possibility, so the whole thing was just built around his skill set.”

Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard are both reprising their roles from Jurassic World, but Trevorrow has strongly hinted that the dinosaurs-as-soldiers plot development from the latter stages of the 2015 movie will not be repeated.

“I’m not that interested in militarised dinosaurs, at least not in practice,” he said. “I liked it in theory as the pipe dream of a lunatic. When that idea was first presented to me as part of an earlier script it was something that the character that ended up being [Chris Pratt’s] Owen was for, that he supported, something that he was actively doing even at the beginning.”

Trevorrow continued: “[My co-writer] Derek and I, one of our first reactions was ‘No, if anyone’s gonna militarise raptors, that’s what the bad guy does, he’s insane.””
