Justin Timberlake bookies’ favourite for ‘Dirty Dancing’ reboot

Emma Stone tipped to play the leading lady

Justin Timberlake and Emma Stone have been named favourites to star in the new version of Dirty Dancing.

Bookmakers across the UK have thrown their hats into the ring regarding the casting for the remake of the classic ’80s film with the pop singer and Easy A star chosen as the favourites.

After it was announced yesterday that the film’s original choreographer Kenny Ortega was being placed in the director’s chair, speculation has mounted as to who will star.

In the potential role of Johnny Castle, made famous by Patrick Swayze, Justin Timberlake is the firm favourite at 3/1, with Thor actor Chris Hemsworth in second at 6/1. Zac Efron is 8/1 to team up again with his High School Musical director.

Dancing With The Stars professional Derek Hough has also been placed on the list, at 16/1, after famously winning the show with the film’s original star Jennifer Grey.

For the role of Frances ‘Baby’ Houseman, Easy A and Superbad actress Emma Stone is being touted to lead at 5/1. Julia Robert’s niece, and Scream 4 actress, Emma Roberts is joint second with Glee actress Lea Michele at 8/1.

Outsiders for the roles include Harry Potter stars Emma Watson and Daniel Radcliffe, as well as Twilight actors Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart.

The original Dirty Dancing, released in 1987, told the story of a young girl’s sexual awakening at the hands of her dance instructor, much to the annoyance of her wealthy family.

Production on the remake at Liongate Films is hoped to begin before the end of the year.
