The fourth instalment in the highly-successful Disney/Pixar franchise is due to hit cinema screens on June 21, 2019. Two trailers were unveiled last month, with one clip featuring new characters who are voiced by comedian double act Key & Peele.
After promising fans that the film will “really surprise you”, actor Tim Allen – who portrays Buzz Lightyear – teased that Reeves “has got a great part” in Toy Story 4.
Now, The Matrix actor has discussed the process of landing the role – revealing that he was allowed to creatively shape the character himself.
“I got a call which was really cool out the blue from the lovely people at Pixar and the creators of this number, this edition, or continuation of the story,” Reeves told Collider. “They pitched the character to me and then we spoke and they allowed me to kind of riff on it.”
The actor said that he has completed four recording sessions for the film at present.
The trailer for Toy Story 4 came with a brief synopsis of the movie. “Woody has always been confident about his place in the world and that his priority is taking care of his kid, whether that’s Andy or Bonnie,” it reads. “But when Bonnie adds a reluctant new toy called ‘Forky’ to her room, a road trip adventure alongside old and new friends will show Woody how big the world can be for a toy.”
With the film expected to be the final outing for Woody and the gang, Tom Hanks – who voices the cowboy protagonist – recently opened up about his last recording sessions.
