Kit Harington calls on Marvel to cast gay actors

"When is that going to happen?”

Game of Thrones actor Kit Harington has called on Marvel to increase the representation of the LGBT community by casting gay actors.

The star, 31, believes that Marvel’s failure to cast a gay actor comes from a perceived clash between masculinity and homosexuality.

Speaking at the Toronto Film Festival, he admitted: “There’s a big problem with masculinity and homosexuality that they can’t somehow go hand in hand.

“That we can’t have someone in a Marvel movie who’s gay in real life and plays some super hero. I mean, when is that going to happen?”

His comments were backed by Thandie Newton, who stars alongside him in Xavier Dolan’s new film The Death and Life of John F. Donovan.

“It is changing, but we have to get behind those changes and keep pushing it,” Newton said.

As he appeared with the free-flowing locks of Jon Snow, Harington also confirmed that he’s contractually obliged to keep the hairstyle until HBO decides that no more reshoots are needed on the fantasy drama’s final season.

“We just finished filming. You can’t tell because I look exactly the same”, he told EntertainmentWeekly.

“They own me; they’ve just kept me like this.”

Meanwhile, Game of Thrones will return for its final ever season in 2019. You can find all out need to know about it here.
