Charming evidence has emerged of Laura Dern saying “pew” every time she fired her blaster while filming Star Wars: The Last Jedi.
The actress, who played Vice Admiral Holdo in the latest sci-fi instalment, first revealed the adorable on Colbert back in August, telling him: “I was back in my bedroom at eight years old. Doing the scene, I went, ‘Pew-pew!’ They’ve taken the sound out, I don’t think you’ll hear that in the movie. I was so excited! I mean, it’s Star Wars!”
Since, eagle-eyed fans have been digging up evidence of her edited-out “pews”, and now director Rian Johnson has confirmed the story in his commentary for the film’s home release. “You can see Laura Dern say ‘pew’ when she fires the gun, which she could never not do every time she shot it,” he says.
Meanwhile, a newly-released deleted scene from Star Wars: The Last Jedi sees Phasma facing down Finn in a dramatic showdown.
Spoilers for Star Wars: The Last Jedi are posted below.
The latest Star Wars film saw the demise of Captain Phasma, who was played by Game of Thrones star Gwendoline Christie. The character was only introduced in the previous film in the series, The Force Awakens.
Those Star Wars fans who were disappointed to see Phasma being killed off have been placated somewhat by the emergence of a new deleted scene, which features as part of the package of additional footage which will be included in the forthcoming home release of The Last Jedi – set for release in the UK on April 9.
The scene in question was premiered on the latest episode of The Star Wars Show, with the deleted scene extending the lead-up to Phasma’s eventual death at the hands of Finn.
