'The Matrix' star signs on for Perry White role
Laurence Fishburne has signed up to play Clark Kent’s boss Perry White in the new Superman movie, Man Of Steel.
A lead actor in The Matrix trilogy and Boyz In The Hood, Fishburne will play the Daily Planet‘s gruff editor, famous for his authoritarian position and no-bullshit attitude as the head of the paper.
Fishburne joins a cast that now includes Russell Crowe, Diane Lane, Kevin Costner and Julia Ormond. Michael Shannon is also on board as the main villain, General Zod.
British actor Henry Cavill and Enchanted star Amy Adams take the leads as Clark Kent and Lois Lane.
Fishburne will be the third actor to take on the role, which requires barking orders at his reporters, including shouting at a man with laser eyesight and immeasurable strength.
When Christopher Reeve donned the tights his boss was played by Jackie Cooper, who returned to chase up copy in all four Reeve-led films. In 2006, Frank Langella inherited the role under the direction of Bryan Singer for Superman Returns.
Man Of Steel is due for release June 14, 2013.
