Leonardo DiCaprio in frame for Martin Scorsese’s ‘The Gambler’ remake

'Inception' star to work with legendary 'Goodfellas' director once again

Leonardo DiCaprio is to reconnect with his The Departed writer and director team of William Monahan and Martin Scorsese.

As reported by Deadline, the trio will be remaking the 1974 film, The Gambler, originally starring James Caan.

The Gambler tells the story of an academic with a gambling addiction that slowly destroys his life. After borrowing money from friends and family, the man soon turned to loan sharks as his addiction worsens.

If all goes to plan this will mark the fifth time DiCaprio has worked with Scorsese after Gangs Of New York, The Aviator, The Departed and Shutter Island. The Departed saw Martin Scorsese finally win an Oscar for Best Director.

As well as The Gambler, DiCaprio has a host of films on the horizon, all in differing stages of production.

He has finished shooting on J.Edgar for Clint Eastwood and is currently filming The Great Gatsby for Baz Lurhman. After that he will star alongside Jamie Foxx in Django Unchained, the new film from Quentin TarantinoJ.

J.Edgar has a UK release date of November 9. Django Unchained will be released Christmas 2012.
