J. Edgar, the new film starring Leonardo DiCaprio, has had its first trailer released online. You can watch it by scrolling down to the bottom of the page and clicking.
Directed by Clint Eastwood, the period film tells the story of the founder of the FBI, J. Edgar Hoover, a man whose life was the subject of much criticism for his controversial, sometimes illegal, methods of gathering evidence.
The trailer also hints at his relationship with his Number Two, Clyde Tolson – played by The Social Network‘s Armie Hammer, as well as Hoover‘s lifelong struggle with a series of psychological issues.
Academy Award winner Judi Dench plays Hoover’s overbearing mother, Anne Marie.
As well as DiCaprio, Hammer and Dench, the cast also boasts Oscar nominee Naomi Watts. The film is written by Dustin Lance Black, the Oscar-winning screenwriter of Milk.
Warner Bros have chosen to leave J.Edgar out of many of the film festivals – including usual Oscar predictor Toronto – and will instead première the film at the American Film Institute festival six days prior to its release in the US.
J.Edgar is due for release in the UK on January 20, 2012.
