London-based sequel to ‘Olympus Has Fallen’ in the works

Gerard Butler, Aaron Eckhart and Morgan Freeman are all set to return

A sequel to this year’s Olympus Has Fallen is in the works.

Directed by Antoine Fuqua, the action thriller starred Gerard Butler, Aaron Eckhart and Morgan Freeman and centred on a terrorist attack on the White House. It opened in cinemas this March and went on to gross an impressive $160 million (£100 million) worldwide.

Titled London Has Fallen, the sequel will follow a terrorist plot to strike the British capital during the funeral of the Prime Minister, Screen Daily reports. Charged with saving the day will be the President of the United States, the head of his secret service and an English MI6 agent.

Butler, Eckhart and Freeman will all reprise their roles from the original, joined by fellow returning cast members Angela Bassett and Radha Mitchell, and shooting is due to start in London on May 5, 2014. The sequel has a script by Creighton Rothenberger and Katrin Benedikt, the screenwriting duo who penned the original.

Butler will once again serve as a producer and the film’s makers are said to be on the hunt for a director. Watch a trailer for the original Olympus Has Fallen below.
