Home Alone star Macaulay Culkin has pointed out a glaring plot hole in the seminal holiday movie, and we’re now wondering why exactly we never noticed it.
In the unlikely event that you haven’t seen the iconic film, Culkin’s McAllister is forced to mount a battle against two cunning burglars when he’s accidentally left at home by himself over the Christmas period.
But while he lays a series of increasingly complex traps to snare the burglars, Culkin has realised that he could have saved a whole lot of time and effort if he’d just bothered to phone the police when things went south.
Of course, that wouldn’t be much of a movie, but it’s a still that deserves an explanation.
“This kid’s a really clever kid, right?” Culkin said as he appeared on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.
“Like, these guys are about to break in, why doesn’t he just call the cops?
“He makes a master plan, he uses Micro Machines but for real, there’s landlines — there are no cellphones but still [he could have called the police].
“I think that’s the only thing and I think that’s an enormous plot hole.”
The appearance came only a day before the Oscars, where Culkin offered a running commentary on Twitter – providing his own uniquely cynical take on proceedings.
