'Home Alone' actor speaks in new interview
Former Home Alone child star Macaulay Culkin has addressed rumours of heroin use in a new interview.
After being pictured looking gaunt in 2012 and reports of the star sharing a flat with Pete Doherty, gossip was rife about Culkin’s health. But now Culkin has responded to the rumours in an interview with The Guardian.
Asked whether people were right to be worried, Culkin responded: “Not necessarily. Of course, when silly stuff is going on – but no, I was not pounding six grand of heroin every month or whatever.”
He continued: “The thing that bugged me was tabloids wrapping it all in this weird guise of concern. No, you’re trying to shift papers.”
On the question of fame, Culkin went on to say: “I don’t just turn my back, I actively don’t want it. The [paparazzi] go after me because I don’t whore myself out.”
“I have no idea [why people care]. I was thinking about this the other day – I’d crossed the wrong street, picked up a tail, suddenly there’s a crush of 20 paparazzi. Then people with cameraphones get involved. I don’t think I’m worthy of that.”
“It’s been like that my whole adult life. You take on a prey-like attitude, always scanning the horizon. It’s strange on dates, as it looks like you’re not paying attention. But I’ve stopped trying to think of myself in the third person, because that’s just gonna drive me nuts.”
“Macaulay Culkin is out there, and I’m Mac. You guys can play with the first one.”
Elsewhere in the interview, Culkin revealed that he is working on a full album with his band The Pizza Underground, a pizza-themed Velvet Underground cover band.
