The first trailer for the Mamma Mia! sequel, Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again, has been released – watch the new clip below.

The sequel to the 2008 musical – which was based on the ABBA-penned stage musical of the same name – starred Meryl Streep, Pierce Brosnan and Amanda Seyfried among an ensemble cast. The movie was a huge success at the box office, generating over $600 million worldwide.

A first look at the much-anticipated sequel – whose title references lyrics from the titular ABBA song from 1975 – has now been released in the form of a new theatrical trailer.

Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again will tell the origin story of many of the characters from the first film, with Lily James starring as young Donna Sheridan – Meryl Streep’s character. The trailer hints, however, that Donna may have passed away between the events of the first film and the present-day setting of the upcoming sequel.

A new ABBA-themed exhibition opened in London last week, with the Southbank Centre-located exhibition – entitled ABBA: Super Troupers being narrated by the voice of Jarvis Cocker, who is a self-proclaimed ABBA fan.
