Luke Skywalker actors says he's 'good about keeping secrets'
Mark Hamill has revealed that he will lose money if he gives away too much about the new Star Wars movie.
Hamill returns as Luke Skywalker in next month’s Star Wars: The Force Awakens, but his iconic character has been conspicuously absent from recent teaser clips and promotional pictures. Star Wars fans have come up with numerous theories to explain his absence, including the possibility that he is “living in self-imposed exile” or potentially “lost on a desert planet”.
Discussing the ongoing threat of spoilers, the actor told PC Gamer: “I have something coming out where there’s an amount of money where if it leaks, because of me, I don’t get that payment. If I keep it a secret until the day it comes out, I get that payment. But I’m good about keeping secrets.”
Recalling that he managed to keep a huge secret while shooting the original Star Wars trilogy, Hamill added: “I’m proud of the fact that I knew a year and a half before anybody else that he [Darth Vader] was actually ‘Dad Vader’. I didn’t even tell Harrison Ford, or my wife…”
Hamill won’t have to keep quiet for too much longer because Star Wars: The Force Awakens opens in less than a month. J.J. Abrams’ film will hit UK cinema screens on Thursday, December 17 followed by theatres in the US on Friday, December 18.
Alongside the returning trio of Hamill, Harrison Ford and Carrie Fisher, the film’s cast includes Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Lupita Nyong’o, Adam Driver and Andy Serkis. J.J. Abrams has recently revealed that Carrie Fisher’s Leia will not be referred to as “Princess” in the film, but has instead been given a new, more military-sounding title.
Meanwhile, it has emerged that the film will feature a character apparently named after a Beastie Boys album.
