Fifth Bourne movie will be released in July
The first trailer for the new Bourne premiered during the Super Bowl last night (February 7).
The film, which is officially named Jason Bourne and will be released on July 29, features Matt Damon in the lead role alongside Alicia Vikander, Julia Stiles, Tommy Lee Jones, Vincent Cassel and Riz Ahmed. Paul Greengrass directs.
Jason Bourne marks the return of Matt Damon’s Jason Bourne after nearly a decade away from the screen. The actor last played the secret agent in 2007’s The Bourne Ultimatum and sat out 2012’s Bourne Legacy, which instead starred Jeremy Renner and performed relatively poorly at the box office.
Director Paul Greengrass, who was behind the camera for the second and third Bourne films, has also returned for the fifth instalment. For the first time, Greengrass and Damon have written the screenplay themselves, alongside Christopher Rouse, who served as editor on the second and third Bourne films.
The film’s supporting cast includes Julia Stiles, who has signed up to reprise her role as agent Nicky Parsons, and Ex Machina actress Alicia Vikander, who has been cast in an unknown role. Meanwhile, Tommy Lee Jones has signed on to appear in an unknown supporting role and Black Swan‘s Vincent Cassel has been cast as an assassin tracking Bourne.
Damon recently said of the film: “Without giving too much of it away, it’s Bourne through an austerity-riddled Europe and in a post-Snowden world.” Bourne 5 is set for release on July 29 this year.
