Matt Smith to join Jared Leto in ‘Spider-Man’ spin-off ‘Morbius’

He's heading to the comic world

Doctor Who icon Matt Smith is reportedly set to join Jared Leto in a big screen take of Marvel’s Morbius The Living Vampire.

The British actor is in talks to star in Sony’s take on the Spider-Man spin-off alongside Pacific Rim star Adria Arjona.

According to Variety, the new movie will form part of Sony’s very own Marvel universe and tells the story of Dr. Michael Morbius who transforms into a vampire in a bid to cure his own blood disease.

Although it’s not yet known who Smith will be playing, MovieWeb  claims that he could be portraying Dr Emil Nikos, who becomes one of Morbius’ victims after transforming into a vampire.

The latest role for Smith comes after a string of Hollywood successes in recent years including his acclaimed turn as Prince Philip in Netflix’s The Crown.

But it could have all been very different, after an Inbetweeners reunion special revealed that he was almost cast in the show.

As the ‘Fwends Reunited’ special aired earlier this month, it was briefly mentioned that the Doctor Who star was almost cast as loveable nerd Will McKenzie before Simon Bird eventually bagged the role.

Smith will also be seen in Mapplethorpe, which sees him star as legendary photographer Robert Mapplethorpe.
