Hugo Weaving and Adam Driver's names have also been connected to the film
Michael Fassbender is the latest in a long-list of actors rumoured to be taking part in Star Wars: Episode VII.
Hugo Weaving and Adam Driver’s names have also been connected to the film, according to Empire Online, adding to the rumours that Harrison Ford and fellow original stars Carrie Fisher and Mark Hamill are all expected to be returning. Atonement‘s Saoirse Ronan and The Wire actor Michael B Jordan also revealed they have auditioned for roles and Benedict Cumberbatch, who worked with Abrams on Star Trek Into Darkness, has been linked to the film too.
The movie is due for release on December 18, 2015. It was revealed in October of last year that director JJ Abrams and Empire Strikes Back and Return Of The Jedi writer Lawrence Kasdan had taken over scriptwriting duties. Originally, Toy Story 3‘s Michael Arnd had been hired to write the film.
Speaking about the script, Lucasfilm boss Kathleen Kennedy said: “I am very excited about the story we have in place and thrilled to have Larry and JJ working on the script. There are very few people who fundamentally understand the way a Star Wars story works like Larry, and it is nothing short of incredible to have him even more deeply involved in its return to the big screen. JJ of course is an incredible storyteller in his own right.” Shooting is due to begin this Spring at Pinewood Studios in Buckinghamshire.
