Miles Teller cast as Goose’s son in ‘Top Gun’ sequel

The long-awaited follow-up to the 1986 film is set for release on July 12, 2019

Miles Teller has landed the role as Goose’s son in the forthcoming Top Gun sequel.

The follow-up to the 1986 classic was confirmed in June 2017, with the new movie set to carry the title Top Gun: Maverick. Tom Cruise will reprise his role as Pete “Maverick” Mitchell, while Val Kilmer will return to play Tom “Iceman” Kazansky.

Variety are reporting that Teller has landed a prime role in the sequel as Bradley Bradshaw, the son of Nick “Goose” Bradshaw who died in the first film. Bradley will be Maverick’s new protégé, with the movie expected to be set “in a world of drone technology and fifth generation fighters [which] will explore the end of the era of dogfighting”.

Teller, who has starred in such films as Whiplash, Divergent and War Dogs, came out on top of a three-man shortlist (which included Glen Powell and Nicholas Hoult) to play Bradley Bradshaw after screen testing with Cruise.

Production on Top Gun: Maverick began on May 30, with Cruise sharing a teaser poster for the new project which carried the caption “Feel the need”.

Top Gun: Maverick is being directed by Joe Kosinski, while original Top Gun producer Jerry Bruckheimer will co-produce along with Cruise and Skydance CEO David Ellison. The new film is set for release on July 12, 2019.
