Tom Cruise is reuniting with 'Jack Reacher' director Christopher McQuarrie for his latest M:I film
Paramount Pictures has set an official release date for Mission: Impossible 5.
Tom Cruise‘s fifth big screen adventure as Ethan Hunt will open in cinemas on December 25, 2015, at least in the US. It has yet to be confirmed whether the action sequel will also get a Christmas Day release in the UK.
Mission: Impossible 5 will arrive hot on the heels of JJ Abrams’ forthcoming Star Wars movie, which has recently been given an official release date of December 18, 2015.
Christopher McQuarrie, who worked with Cruise on last year’s Jack Reacher, is set to direct from a script by Iron Man 3 scribe Drew Pearce. Cruise signed up to star in and produce M:15 in May of this year (2013) but his co-stars in the sequel have yet to be confirmed.
Cruise first appeared as elite secret agent Ethan Hunt in 1996’s Mission: Impossible and has reprised the role in three sequels. The most recent instalment, Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol, which also featured Jeremy Renner, Paula Patton and Simon Pegg, came out in 2011 and grossed nearly $700 million (£450 million) at the box office worldwide – the highest total of Cruise’s career.
