‘Neighborhood Watch’ renamed due to Florida killing

Alien comedy film starring Ben Stiller, Jonah Hill name changed after Trayvon Martin shooting

Neighborhood Watch, a forthcoming alien comedy film starring Ben Stiller and Jonah Hill, has been renamed due to the killing of a Florida teenager.

The film will now be simply titled The Watch, after producers changed its title following the death of Trayvon Martin, who was killed by a neighbourhood watch volunteer.

In a statement, 20th Century Fox stated that the film was in no way connected with the shooting in February of this year. They said: “As the subject matter of this alien invasion comedy bears no relation whatsoever to the recent tragic events in Florida, the studio altered the title to avoid any accidental or unintended misimpression that it might.”

The company had previously pulled promotional posters across the US for the film, which also stars Vince Vaughn and The IT Crowd‘s Richard Ayoade’.

Martin was shot and killed by neighbourhood watch member George Zimmerman, who has been charged with second-degree murder. Zimmerman denies murder and claims he acted on self-defence.

Neighborhood Watch is released in the UK on August 22. The trailer is below.
