Classic Hanna-Barbera sitcom is heading to the big screen again
A new animated film version of classic Hanna-Barbera sitcom The Jetsons is in the works.
Warner Bros has hired Matt Lieberman to write the film’s script, Deadline reports. Lieberman has also scripted a forthcoming Scooby-Doo movie for the studio.
Back in 2012 Kanye West had meetings with film executives to discuss a possible live-action movie based on The Jetsons. However, this project now appears to have been abandoned and Lieberman is said to be “working from scratch on a fully-animated version”.
The Jetsons was conceived by Hanna-Barbera as a space-age counterpart to The Flintstones and originally aired for 24 episodes in 1963. A further 51 episodes were made between 1985-87.
An earlier animated big screen spin-off, Jetsons: The Movie, came out in 1990 but performed poorly at the box office and proved equally unpopular with critics.
