New behind the scenes picture shows Luke Skywalker on the set of ‘Star Wars: Episode VIII’

Mark Hamill spotted in Ireland

A new image taken behind the scenes on a Star Wars: Episode VIII set shows Mark Hamill as Luke Skywalker in full Jedi costume.

The picture was shared by Variety and can be seen below. With filming for the 2017 title underway in Skellig Michael, off the coast of County Kerry, Ireland, a photographer captured the crew filming a scene with Hamill.

Skellig Michael is the same location J.J. Abrams filmed the closing scene in Episode VII that featured Hamill and Daisy Ridley (Rey).

Disney are reportedly spending around £3 million on security procedures during the filming of the next Star Wars film in an attempt to prevent unauthorised leaks.

Star Wars: Episode VIII started shooting at Pinewood Studios in Buckinghamshire earlier this year, with filming reportedly also set to take place in Croatia.

It is believed that there will be a “special team with drones” at the new site, alongside 600 guards and round-the-clock security with reports estimating that the total cost of security will be $4.3 million (£3.04m).

Cast members Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, Adam Driver, Daisy Ridley and John Boyega will return for Episode VIII, along with the introduction of Benicio Del Toro (Traffic, Sin City) and Laura Dern (Jurassic Park, Wild).

Episode VIII will be preceded by a spin-off called Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, which is directed by Gareth Edwards (Godzilla).
