The JJ Abrams produced movie has been scheduled for October 2017
A new Cloverfield film is set to be released in 2017, as Paramount have scheduled an untitled Cloverfield movie for an October 27th IMAX debut.
Earlier this year, JJ Abrams hinted at a Cloverfield trilogy. Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, he said; “I would be lying if I didn’t say there was something else that, if we’re lucky enough to do it, could be really cool that connects some stories”
Speaking of 10 Cloverfield Lane, Abrams said; “This is just this movie, and it’s only two films that we’re talking about right now,” before adding, “There is something else that we’d like to do, and hopefully we’ll get a shot.”
Rumours began circulating in October that the upcoming science fiction film God Particle was actually the next “spiritual sequel” to Cloverfield after 10 Cloverfield Lane. Today, according to CoS, Paramount removed the J.J. Abrams-produced film from its February 27th, 2017 release date and instead scheduled an untitled Cloverfield movie for an October 27th IMAX debut.
If God Particle is the next film in the Cloverfield universe, it will be the first to take place almost entirely in outer space. Written by Oren Uziel (22 Jump Street) and Doug Jung (Star Trek Beyond) and directed by Julius Onah, it stars David Oyelowo, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Ziyi Zhang, Elizabeth Debicki, Daniel Brühl and Chris O’Dowd.
The 10 Cloverfield Lane cast included John Goodman, Mary Elizabeth Winstead and John Gallagher, Jr. The plot was described as “Waking up from a car accident, a young woman (Winstead) finds herself in the basement of a man who says he’s saved her life from a chemical attack that has left the outside uninhabitable.”
“He tells me that basically the world is over outside because there’s been a nuclear fall-out,” Winstead has said of her character’s relationship with her saviour/captor. “There’s a lot of who’s manipulating who, and all of that.” It was released in March of this year.
