JJ Abrams' sequel to 2009's 'Star Trek' arrives in UK cinemas on May 9
A brand new clip from Star Trek Into Darkness has been released. Scroll down and click ‘play’ to watch it.
The 80-second teaser features a tense exchange between Chris Pine‘s Captain Kirk and the film’s mysterious villain played by Sherlock star Benedict Cumberbatch. “The only reason you are alive is because I am allowing it, so shut your mouth,” Kirk tells his nemesis, though the baddie doesn’t obey him.
Back in December (2012), director JJ Abrams shed some light on Cumberbatch’s character, saying: “His name is John Harrison and he is sort of an average. That is what makes him so scary – he is just an average guy who works in an organisation called Starfleet, and he turns against the group because he has got this back story and this kind of amazing secret agenda.”
Alongside Cumberbatch and Pine, Star Trek Into Darkness reunites the Enterprise crew from Abrams’ acclaimed 2009 reboot Star Trek, including Zachary Quinto‘s Spock, Simon Pegg’s Scotty and Zoe Saldana’s Nyota.
The film is due to arrive in UK cinemas on May 9 – a week earlier than originally planned. Meanwhile, Abrams has recently insisted he could return for the next Star Trek film, even though he’s been hired by Disney to direct the new Star Wars movie due in 2015.
