JJ Abrams' sequel to his 2009 'Star Trek' reboot arrives in cinemas on May 9
A brand new trailer for Star Trek Into Darkness has been released. Scroll down and click ‘play’ to watch it.
The new teaser features plenty of menace from Benedict Cumberbatch, who plays the film’s mysterious villain. Chris Pine‘s Captain Kirk refuses to be intimidated though, telling his crew: “Let’s go get this son of a bitch!”
Back in December (2012), director JJ Abrams shed some light on Cumberbatch’s character, saying: “His name is John Harrison and he is sort of an average. That is what makes him so scary – he is just an average guy who works in an organisation called Starfleet, and he turns against the group because he has got this back-story and this kind of amazing secret agenda.”
Exact plot details are being kept under wraps but the first nine minutes of Star Trek Into Darkness have been shown before IMAX screenings of The Hobbit. Click here for NME’s rundown of everything we know about the film so far.
Alongside Cumberbatch and Pine, Star Trek Into Darkness reunites the Enterprise crew from Abrams’ acclaimed 2009 reboot Star Trek, including Zachary Quinto‘s Spock and Simon Pegg’s Scotty and Zoe Saldana’s Nyota Uhura. The film is due to arrive in UK cinemas on May 9.
