Luhrmann's lavish movie stars Leonardo DiCaprio and has a soundtrack overseen by Jay-Z
The first TV spot for Baz Luhrmann‘s The Great Gatsby has appeared online. Scroll down to watch it.
Shot in 3D, Luhrmann’s lavish adaptation of the classic F Scott Fitzgerald novel stars Leonardo DiCaprio in the title role alongside Carey Mulligan as Daisy Buchanan and Tobey Maguire as Nick Carraway. All appear in the new teaser clip, which also showcases the visual flair Luhrmann displayed on his previous movies Moulin Rouge! and Romeo + Juliet.
Luhrmann chose to film The Great Gatsby in his native Australia, though the action is set in New York and Long Island’s North Shore during the summer of 1922. A longer trailer for the film was released last December (2012) and you can watch it here.
Earlier this month (March), it was announced that Jay-Z is overseeing the official soundtrack for The Great Gatsby and will record new music for the movie. Other artists rumoured to have contributed to Jay-Z’s soundtrack include Lady Gaga, Prince and Lana Del Rey.
Originally, The Great Gatsby was supposed to open on Christmas Day last year (2012), but Warner Bros made a decision to push back the release date “to ensure this unique film reaches the largest audience possible”. It’s now due to arrive in UK cinemas on May 17 – two days after it opens this year’s Cannes Film Festival.
