Historical action-thriller also stars Matt Damon, Cate Blanchett, John Goodman and Bill Murray
A new trailer for George Clooney‘s Oscars contender The Monuments Men has been released. Watch it below.
As well as starring, Clooney directed the historical action-thriller and co-wrote its script with Grant Heslov, with whom he previously collaborated on The Ides Of March and Good Night, And Good Luck.
The Monuments Men is based on a book by Robert Edsel and tells the true story of a World War II platoon whose job was to rescue artistic masterpieces from the Nazis before Hitler destroyed them.
As ever, Clooney has attracted an impressive ensemble cast, with Matt Damon, Cate Blanchett, John Goodman, Bill Murray, The Artist star Jean Dujardin and Downton Abbey‘s Hugh Bonneville all appearing alongside him. He shot the film earlier this year in various locations in Germany and the UK.
The Monuments Men opens in US cinemas on December 18, right in the heart of awards season, before getting a UK release on January 9, 2014. According to Paddy Power, it’s currently sixth favourite to take home the Best Picture prize at next year’s Oscars with odds of 16/1. 12 Years A Slave is currently favourite with odds of 6/5, followed by American Hustle at 3/1 and Gravity (which also stars Clooney) at 7/1.
