Nick Jonas is reportedly in talks to join the cast of Sony’s Jumanji reboot. The film has already secured cast members Dwayne Johnson, Jack Black, and Kevin Hart.
Released in 1995, Jumanji revolved around a kind of supernatural board game that made wild animals and other jungle hazards appear as the players rolled the dice. It was based upon an 1981 fantasy novel of the same name by author Chris Van Allsburg.
Details of Jonas’ character have yet to be revealed but according to Entertainment Weekly, Jonas would join the cast in the role of ‘Alex’.
The Jumanji remake was announced in July 2012, when it was reported that the new movie would try to “re-imagine” the original film and “update it for the present”. At the time, The Amazing Spider-Man producer Matt Tolmach was understood to be working on the remake alongside William Teitler and Ted Field, two of the original film’s producers.
Dwayne Johnson recently stated that the remake of Jumanji will “honour” Robin Williams. In an Instagram post, he wrote: “An important thing that I want to be honest and bring up is Robin Williams. The love and respect I have for this man is boundless. You have my word, we will honor his name and the character of “Alan Parrish” will stand alone and be forever immortalized in the world of JUMANJI in an earnest and cool way.”
He contiunes: “I have an idea of what to do and I think his family will be proud. I also think Robin is somewhere lookin’ down and laughing, remembering the first time we met backstage and I (for the first time ever) was a star struck bumbling idiot that couldn’t even get my words out. Idiot. He literally calmed me down w/ that smile and laugh. But that’s for another fun story down the road.”.
