Nicolas Cage will finally get to play Superman

Cage voices Superman in 'Teen Titans: Go!' animated film

Nicolas Cage will voice Superman in a new DC animated movie.

Cage will portray Superman in Teen Titans: Go! To The Movies, which is set for release on July 27. The film will see Halsey as Wonder Woman and Lil Yachty playing Green Lantern. Will Arnett and Kristin Bell also star. Check out a trailer below.

Speaking to USA Today, executive producer Sam Register said of the news: “Every superhero in the DC Universe has an impact on the fans, so we felt a great responsibility to find a voice for each character that would not only suit the role, but the playful tone of the Titans, and we’re thrilled with our cameo cast.”

This comes 20 years after Cage was first set to play Superman in the scrapped Superman Lives film.

Superman Lives went into development in the late 90s before eventually being shelved. It was to be directed by Tim Burton, written by Kevin Smith (Clerks) and produced by Jon Peters (Superman Returns).

A documentary about the failed project, The Death of Superman Lives: What Happened?, was released in 2015.

Cage spoke to NME recently about new horror movie Mom and Dad.

Explaining what motivates his career, Cage said: “I have multiple reasons for wanting to work. One of them is, to be blatantly honest, I can be a little self-destructive if I’m not focused on my job. I like the structure of work. It’s the difference between maybe having one bottle of wine versus two. So there is a routine and a structure to it.”

He added: “Also I have had to deal with mistakes of the past and I have had to dig myself up and out of a rabbit hole financially. And third, I enjoy it.”
