Images show Spock in 'Volcano Suit'
A series of new images from the set of Star Trek 2 have emerged online.
In the stills, available to see over at IFC, Zachary Quinto, as Spock is seen dangling from a stunt wire in a copper orange suit. According to on-set reports the outfit has been dubbed ‘The Volcano Suit’.
Trekkies may recognise the design as being similar to the suit worn by Leonard Nimoy in the first Star Trek film, Star Trek: The Motion Picture. The outfit does, however, have one notable addition; A very shiny codpiece.
With the first/eleventh Star Trek film setting up an alternative time line to the previous ten Trek films, there is every chance that director J.J Abrams will revisit certain characters and locations from the Gene Rodenberry created world. Whether the suit is merely a nod to the first in the franchise remains to be seen.
Also up for speculation is the exact role of Benedict Cumberbatch. Earlier this year a series of snaps were released showing Benedict Cumberbatch and Zachary Quinto engaged in combat. The most talked about on-set pic presented Spock delivering a Vulcan Nerve Pinch to the Sherlock star.
As well as Zachary Quinto, Chris Pine, Simon Pegg and all the stars of Star Trek (2009,) will return for the as yet unnamed sequel.
Star Trek 2 is tentatively set for release on May 17, 2013
