Prepare for nostalgia: the original Spyro games are being remastered

Hello, childhood. We missed you.

Spyro is a hallmark game for many people growing up in the late nineties and the fire-breathing, sheep-chasing purple dragon is returning to consoles this year in ‘Spyro Reignited Trilogy’.

Released September 21, the remastered editions of Spyro the Dragon, Spyro 2: Ripto’s Rage!, and Spyro: Year of the Dragon will be available on PS4 and Xbox One.

Developer Toys For Bob have remade the games from the ground-up so don’t expect them to be the originals with a fresh coat of paint. There are over 100 levels to play across the three games with a “re-imagined” soundtrack as well as the classic voice of Spyro, Tom Kenny, returning to reprise the role.

Last year, Crash Bandicoot was treated to a similar remaster titled ‘The N. Sane Trilogy’. Released on PlayStation 4, it soared to number one in UK charts gaming charts, with everyone loving the chance to return to their childhoods by crashing through crates and collecting wumpa fruits.

However, nobody seems to remember the games being this difficult when they played them as a kid causing a swath of aggressive reactions on the internet.

As a deep-cut reference for the real fans of the games, you’ll be able to access the Reignited Trilogy trailer from a copy of The N.
