Petition to ‘remove Ben Affleck as Batman’ collects over 30,000 signatures

Affleck has been cast as the caped crusader in the forthcoming sequel to 'Man Of Steel'

An online petition to stop Ben Affleck from playing Batman has already amassed over 30,000 signatures.

Warner Bros announced yesterday (August 23) that Affleck will join Henry Cavill‘s Superman in the sequel to Man Of Steel after Ryan Gosling, Josh Brolin and The Dark Knight star all had been tipped to play the caped crusader in the superhero mash-up movie.

Jon Roden from Ludlow in Kentucky subsequently launched a petition on titled “Warner Brothers: Remove Ben Affleck as Batman/Bruce Wayne in the Superman/Batman movie”.

“His acting skill is not even close to being believable as Bruce Wayne and he won’t do the role justice,” Ludlow argues. “He’s not built, nor is he intimidating enough for the role of Batman. His portrayal of Daredevil was atrocious and he’s not remotely close to an action star. Please find someone else.”

Ludlow has since updated the page to “add that this petition was not meant in any way to harm Ben Affleck or his career”. Roden explains: “I respect Affleck’s work, I just feel he is inappropriate for the role.” At the time of writing, the petition has collected 30,087 signatures.

Director Zack Snyder is due to start shooting the Superman-meets-Batman match-up movie, which is currently untitled, next year (2014). Warner Bros has set a release date of July 17, 2015 and alongside Cavill Man Of Steel stars Amy Adams, Laurence Fishburne and Diane Lane are all confirmed to be returning.
