'The Theory Of Everything' actress Felicity Jones will star in the standalone 2016 movie
Disney and Lucasfilm have revealed plot details for Star Wars spin-off film Rogue One.
Rogue One, the first in a wave of Star Wars spin-offs being developed by Disney and Lucasfilm, will star British actress Felicity Jones, who received an Oscar nomination earlier this year for her performance in The Theory Of Everything. Rogue One will be directed by Godzilla‘s Gareth Edwards from a script by Chris Weitz, the Oscar-nominated writer of Cinderella, About A Boy and Antz.
During a panel at the Star Wars Celebration event in Anaheim, California yesterday (April 19), Lucasfilm’s President Kathleen Kennedy revealed that the wave of spin-off films will officially be known as the “Star Wars Anthology Series”. A brief plot synopsis for Rogue One was then released and shared on Twitter.
During the panel, fans were shown a brief teaser clip for Rogue One and low-quality fan-made videos of the clip were soon uploaded to YouTube. However, these have since been taken down following copyright claims by Disney and Lucasfilm.
Gareth Edwards is due to start shooting Rogue One this summer in London and Disney and Lucasfilm have set a release date of December 16, 2016. “I couldn’t sit in a cinema and know that someone else made this film,” the director told fans at the Rogue One panel yesterday.
