Police deny that Brad Pitt is under investigation for child abuse amid Angelina Jolie divorce

A source close to the actor has denied the claims

Reports have claimed that Brad Pitt is under investigation for child abuse following news that Angelina Jolie has filed for divorce. The LAPD has since denied this.

Jolie reportedly filed for divorce on Monday (September 19), listing their separation as September 15. The couple had been together since 2004, marrying in August 2014. They have six children.

TMZ reports that Pitt is under investigation by the LAPD and LA County Dept of Children and Family Services for allegedly being verbally and physically abusive to his children.

However, the LAPD has since denied this to The Hollywood Reporter. “We have no criminal investigation that we are actively pursuing,” Sgt Barry Montgomery said. “To my knowledge, [Pitt talking to police] never happened. And right now, that is where our office is. We are not investigating any case, nor do we have any allegations against Mr Pitt. We understand how rumours get spun up and hopefully we can put a few of them to rest. We have no investigation involving Mr Pitt.”

The TMZ report initially read: “Sources familiar with the situation tell us, Brad, Angelina and their kids were on a flight last Wednesday when he allegedly got wasted on the private jet. He allegedly went wild, screaming and getting physical with the kids.”

It continues: “We’re told the plane landed at an airport around 8 PM, and witnesses say Pitt continued his rant on the tarmac, and even tried leaving in one of the fuel trucks.”

“Our sources say someone either on the plane or the tarmac anonymously reported the incident to the L.A. County Dept. of Children and Family Services. We’re told Brad and Angelina have already been interviewed and DCFS plans to interview the kids as well. That investigation is ongoing.”

A source “close to Brad” reportedly told TMZ: “He takes the matter very seriously and says he did not commit any abuse of his children. It’s unfortunate that people involved are continuing to present him in the worst possible light.”

In a statement following the news of Jolie filing for divorce, Pitt said: “I am very saddened by this, but what matters most now is the wellbeing of our kids. I kindly ask the press to give them the space they deserve during this challenging time.”
