'Walk The Line' actress will also serve as a producer on the project
Reese Witherspoon is to star as Tinker Bell in a new Disney live-action film.
The Walk The Line actress will also produce the film, which is currently titled Tink. The film will apparently show a different side to the popular fairy character from J.M. Barrie’s Peter Pan, in the style of last year’s Maleficent, which offered a friendlier perspective on Sleeping Beauty‘s famous villainess.
Tink has no director attached yet, but Victoria Strouse, who has scripted the forthcoming sequel to Finding Nemo, has been hired to write the screenplay. Witherspoon also served as a producer on this year’s Wild, for which she received a Best Actress Oscar nomination, and Hot Pursuit, her forthcoming comedy film co-starring Modern Family‘s Sofia Vergara.
Tink is the latest in a wave of Disney live-action films featuring popular fairy tale characters. Cinderella starring Downton Abbey‘s Lily James opened in cinemas in March, while Harry Potter‘s Emma Watson is set to star in a live-action version of Beauty And The Beast, joined by an impressive ensemble cast including Dan Stevens, Luke Evans, Emma Thompson, Kevin Kline and Josh Gad.
