Birds of Prey: Release date confirmed for Margot Robbie’s return as Harley Quinn

She's back....

The release date has been confirmed for Birds of Prey, which sees Margot Robbie return as Harley Quinn.

The DC Comics movie will be directed by Cathy Yan and is scheduled to hit cinemas on February 7 2020.

It follows the adventures of Harley Quinn post-Suicide Squad, as she teams up with Black Canary and Huntress to fight crime in Gotham City.

Deadline reported that True Blood star Jurnee Smollett-Bell has been confirmed to play martial arts expert Black Canary with Fargo‘s Mary Elizabeth Winstead finalising the all-female gang as Huntress, the superhero who turns her back on her mafia background to bring down organised crime.

The February 2020 release means that the film will hit cinemas only months after Joaquin Phoenix’s debut turn as The Joker – which is set for release in October 2019.

Director Todd Phillips has been teasing fans by drip-feeding shots of Phoenix: first sharing an image as Arthur Fleck (the Joker’s real name), entirely free of the elaborate make-up that the character usually sports. This was followed by a camera test of Joaquin Phoenix in full Joker make-up.

As well as Phoenix, the film will also star Robert DeNiro as a talk show host who plays an instrumental role in the Joker’s development. Other major players include Zazie Beetz, who stars as a single mother who becomes mysteriously involved with the Joker.
