Renee Zellweger to make debut as director with new Johnny Knoxville movie

She'll also co-star in the film, which is based on the life of stand-up comedian Dov Davidoff

Renee Zellweger is to make her debut as a director with a new movie starring Johnny Knoxville.

As well as directing, Zellweger will star alongside Knoxville in 4 1/2 Minutes, a film based on the life of stand-up comedian Dov Davidoff. According to Variety, Knoxville will play a struggling comedian forced to take a job looking after Zellweger’s genius son.

The film, set on the New York City stand-up scene, is scheduled to begin shooting next February (2013). It has been scripted by Anthony Tamakis, who is set to direct Zellweger in a new Broadway production of The Hustler and is also developing a TV series called Cinn-amon Girl with the actress.

Zellweger, 43, is also confirmed to star in the third Bridget Jones movie, which has been in development for some time. She made her last big screen appearance in 2010’s My Own Love Song, a road movie whose soundtrack contained songs by Bob Dylan. Jackass star Knoxville will next be seen in The Last Stand, a new Arnold Schwarzenegger movie due for release in January (2013).

Zellweger is not the only Hollywood actor currently hatching plans for a second career behind the camera. Last week (August 30), it was announced that Ryan Gosling will make his debut as a director with a new movie called How To Catch A Monster.
