Mark Hamill has called for Donald Trump’s Walk of Fame star to be replaced with a star for Carrie Fisher.
Trump’s star was vandalised last month, with Austin Mikel Clay, 24, being charged with the vandalism. He stands accused of using a pickaxe to smash the president’s star on Hollywood Boulevard on July 25.
Earlier this week, it was announced that Hollywood had voted to remove Donald Trump’s star. The West Hollywood City Council voted unanimously to approve a resolution that urges the Los Angeles City Council and Hollywood Chamber of Commerce to permanently remove his star.
They cited his “disturbing treatment of women” among the reasons for the star’s proposed removal. “The City Council will consider adopting a resolution urging the Los Angeles City Council and Hollywood Chamber of Commerce to remove President Donald J. Trump’s star from the Hollywood Walk of Fame, due to his disturbing treatment of women and other actions that do not meet the shared values of the City of West Hollywood, the region, state, and country”, the item stated.
The final decision to remove the star rests with the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce, who have previously resisted calls to remove the stars of controversial figures – including Bill Cosby.
Now, Star Wars actor Mark Hamill has announced his idea of a replacement, should the star be removed.
Sharing the news of the stars removal, Hamill tweeted: “How about replacing it with someone who really earned it? Like @carrieffisher” See that tweet below.
Despite her extensive film career, Fisher never received a star on the Walk of Fame before her death in 2016. To receive a star, the person must be nominated while a fee has to be paid to have the star created.
Last month (Aug 1), J.J. Abrams paid tribute to Fisher in his first ever tweet as production on Star Wars: Episode IX got underway.
“Bittersweet starting this next chapter without Carrie, but thanks to an extraordinary cast and crew, we are ready to go,” he wrote.
