Controversial host will host annual awards ceremony for fourth time later this month
Ricky Gervais has apologised in advance of his appearance at this year’s Golden Globes, saying he plans to be drunk when hosting the awards ceremony.
The Extras and The Office star will preside over the annual awards bash for the fourth time in six years, having previously served as host in 2010, 2011 and 2012. He takes over from Tina Fey and Amy Poehler, who jointly hosted the prestigious film and TV event in 2013 and 2014.
As well as being asked to host the event on four occasions, Gervais has taken home three Golden Globe awards over the years – two for The Office and one for Extras.
The comedian and actor tweeted about his upcoming host role and wrote: “Because I can see the future, I’d like to apologise now for the things I said at next week’s Golden Globes. I was drunk & didn’t give a fuck.”
Gervais began his 2010 hosting stint by joking: “Looking at all the wonderful faces here today reminds me of the great work that’s been done this year… by cosmetic surgeons.”
The 2016 Golden Globes take place on January 10. See the full list of nominees here.
