Robert Downey Jr says there are no plans for ‘Iron Man 4’

Robert Downey Jr has revealed thare are no plans for Marvel hero Iron Man to return in a fourth solo adventure.

The actor was at the Toronto International Film Festival promoting his new film The Judge.

In an interview with Variety Downey Jr said: “There isn’t one in the pipe… No, there’s no plans for a fourth Iron Man.”

The actor has previously said he is reluctant to sign on for any more superhero films. When asked about the possibility of ‘letting’ someone else take on the role Downey Jr joked: “I like that the idea is that it would be to me, like I’m casting director for Marvel.”

However, the actor will return as Tony Stark’s canned crusader in next summer’s Avengers: Age of Ultron. The Joss Whedon-directed sequel recently finished shooting in the UK. Downey Jr has also signed on to make an Avengers threequel due in cinemas in 2018 which will mark ten years since the character first appeared on the big screen.

Iron Man 3 was directed by Lethal Weapon creator Shane Black and featured Ben Kingsley as villain The Mandarin. The film took over £750m at the worldwide box office

In The Judge Downey Jr plays a hotshot lawyer who jokes, “innocent people can’t afford me”. He is forced to reconnect with his estranged father played by Robert Duvall. Watch the trailer below.
