Ryan Gosling and Zac Efron rumoured for ‘Star Wars’ roles

Gosling is reportedly in the frame to play Luke Skywalker's son in 'Star Wars: Episode VII'

Ryan Gosling and Zac Efron have been linked to the new Star Wars movie in a report by Latino Review.

Both actors went in for meetings with Lucasfilm last week, the report claims, and Gosling is said to be in the frame to play the son of Luke Skywalker. Latino Review has no leads on Efron’s possible role but also claims that Leonardo DiCaprio has already met with Lucasfilm about Star Wars: Episode VII and passed on the project.

Although the report should probably be taken with several pinches of salt, it’s worth noting that Latino Review has a decent track record breaking this kind of story and claimed earlier this year that Harrison Ford would be reprising his role as Han Solo in Episode VII – something which Ford has since pretty much confirmed.

Meanwhile, Lucasfilm has recently denied rumours that director JJ Abrams is about to pull out of Star Wars: Episode VII because he is unhappy about having to relocate his family from LA to London for the shoot, which is set to begin early next year.

Lucasfilm – which is now owned by Disney – has slated Star Wars: Episode VII for release in 2015 and hired Toy Story 3 writer Michael Arndt to pen the script. In addition to Ford, original cast members Carrie Fisher and Mark Hamill both hinted very strongly that they will be returning. Rather more surprisingly, Florence Welch has recently been linked to a “leading role” in the film.
