Reynolds has previously played superheroes including The Green Lantern
Ryan Reynolds has said that he will never play another comic book character again after enjoying his time making Deadpool so much.
Reynolds, who played The Green Lantern in an ill-fated 2011 movie, has also taken on comic book roles in RIPD and Blade: Trinity. However, it is only Wade Wilson that has made him happy.
“I never want to play another comic book character again; Deadpool, I would like to play for the rest of my life – that’d be fun,” Reynolds told IG. “I’ve done a number of them, and I think it’s time for other people to do them now. You’ve got to share the wealth on that one.”
The long-awaited film will open in UK cinemas on February 10. Ryan Reynolds is flanked by a supporting cast that includes Haywire‘s Gina Carano, former Homeland actress Morena Baccarin, Game Of Thrones veteran Ed Skrein and Silicon Valley star TJ Miller.
Visual effects specialist Tim Miller, whose CV includes creating the opening sequence for 2013’s Thor: The Dark World, makes his directorial debut from a script by Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, the creators of US hoax-based comedy series The Joe Schmo Show.
The film’s official plot synopsis teases: “Based upon Marvel Comics’ most unconventional anti-hero, Deadpool tells the origin story of former Special Forces operative turned mercenary Wade Wilson, who after being subjected to a rogue experiment that leaves him with accelerated healing powers, adopts the alter ego Deadpool. Armed with his new abilities and a dark, twisted sense of humour, Deadpool hunts down the man who nearly destroyed his life.”
