Film sees Cohen playing a football hooligan whose brother is an elite spy
Sacha Baron Cohen stars in the first trailer for new film Grimsby.
The film – titled The Brothers Grimsby in the US – tells the story of a football hooligan (Cohen) who goes on the run with his Black Ops agent brother (Mark Strong). It opens on February 26 2016 in US cinemas and March 4 in the UK.
The film also stars Penelope Cruz, Rebel Wilson, Ian McShane, Gabourey Sidibe and Cohen’s wife, Isla Fisher.
In 2014, the film attracted criticism from Grimsby councillor Matthew Brown over the portrayal of the Lincolnshire town. Brown hit out at the comedian behind characters Borat and Ali G for portraying the town in a bad light.
“It is using the town’s name in potentially a poor light,” Brown told MailOnline. “What also worries me is that there is no benefit to the local economy which is carrying the town’s name. Anything that you associate with football hooliganism is going to be negative, but I hope people will be open-minded when they watch the film.
Grimsby was directed by Louis Leterrier.
