Samuel L Jackson will not appear in ‘Iron Man 3’

His character Nick Fury will next be seen in 'Captain America 2' in 2014

Iron Man 3 will not feature an appearance from Samuel L Jackson.

Jackson played Nick Fury in 2008’s Iron Man and 2010’s Iron Man 2, before reprising the role in several other Marvel superhero movies, including this year’s The Avengers.

However, in an interview with Total Film, the actor revealed that his character will sit out the next Iron Man adventure. He said: “I think my next time as Nick Fury is in Captain America: The Winter Soldier. Because I’m not in Iron Man 3. None of the Avengers are in Iron Man 3. It’s a standalone Iron Man movie.”

Iron Man 3 is scheduled for release in 2013, with Captain America: The Winter Soldier to follow in April 2014. In between, Marvel will release another Avengers spin-off, Thor: The Dark World, in November 2013.

Meanwhile, the first trailer for Iron Man 3 was unveiled last month (October 2012) – and appears at the bottom of this article. After watching it, fans began speculating that the new film could be darker and less comic than the first two. However, producer Kevin Feige has since insisted that Iron Man 3 is “not a serious movie”.

Alongside Robert Downey Jr as hero Tony Stark, Iron Man 3 stars Ben Kingsley as a villain called the Mandarin and Guy Pearce as a second nemesis. Gwyneth Paltrow and Don Cheadle are both reprising their roles from previous Iron Man movies.
