"We just live in different countries & it got hard"
Comedian Sarah Silverman has announced her split from Michael Sheen in light-hearted fashion, emulating Gwyneth Paltrow and describing their separation as a “conscious uncoupling”.
Silverman jokingly used the phrase after it was first used by Paltrow to announce her divorce from Coldplay’s Chris Martin in 2015.
But while Paltrow initially cited “irreconcilable differences” for her split from Martin, it seems that there’s no such bad blood between Silverman and Welsh star Sheen.
Instead, she confirmed that their parting was due to the difficulties of living in different countries, with Silverman based in Los Angeles and Sheen in Wales.
“The great @michaelsheen & I consciously uncoupled over Christmas. I mean, not ‘over Christmas’ – like that wasn’t the fight that ended it”, she wrote on Twitter.
“No fight. We just live in different countries & it got hard. Felt we should just tell y’all so u stop askin, “How’s Michael/How’s Sarah?”
Last year, Silverman spoke about the sexual misconduct scandal involving her friend and fellow comedian Louis CK, saying: “I love Louis. But Louis did these things. Both of those statements are true”.
In November, CK was accused of sexual misconduct by five women before eventually apologising for his actions.
In a clip from her I Love You, America Hulu series, Silverman says that the “calling-out of sexual assault” has been “a long time coming”, adding: “It’s good. It’s like cutting out tumours: it’s messy and it’s complicated and it is going to hurt. But it’s necessary and we’ll all be healthier for it.”
