“Simply irreplaceable”: Mark Hamill reacts to Carrie Fisher’s Star Wars Episode 9 return

"It's bittersweet facing my final chapter without her"

Mark Hamill has opened up about his “bittersweet” return for Star Wars: Episode IX without the late Carrie Fisher.

In the wake of the news that Fisher will star posthumously in the next film, Hamill shared two photos of the pair together.

“It’s bittersweet facing my final chapter without her-She is simply irreplaceable, he wrote alongside the pictures in a Twitter post shared on Sunday (July 29).

“I’m finding solace in the fact that she won’t BE replaced & would love the worldwide outpouring of affection from those who loved her when they heard the news.#CarrieOnForever.”

Fisher’s role in the “final chapter” will be made up of unused footage of General Leia Organa from Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

The full cast lineup was revealed last Wednesday (July 27). It includes Hamill along with other veteran Star Wars actors, and new additions including Richard E. Grant.

In other news, Hamill recently trolled fans with a mock ‘Episode IX’ casting announcement.

His Instagram post included an illustration of an empty robe, and read:  “BREAKING NEWS: #StarWars #EpisodeIX writer/director JJ Abrams casts Empty Robe in latest installment of much anticipated space-saga.”
