The film is set to begin shooting next week
Sir Anthony Hopkins has joined the cast of Transformers: The Last Knight.
The Oscar-winning screen icon has signed up to star in the latest instalment of Michael Bay’s blockbuster franchise, which has grossed over $1 billion dollars at the international box office to date.
Confirming Hopkins’ involvement on their Twitter account, the Transformers team wrote: “The man, the legend – help us welcome Sir Anthony Hopkins to the #Transformers Universe.”
Hopkins’ role in the film is yet to be revealed, but it is set to begin shooting in Detroit on Monday, before moving to a series of different locations, including Cuba.
Earlier this week, Michael Bay revealed that the film would also see the return of Megatron, the villainous robot leader of the Deceptions, while Mark Wahlberg is also expected to reprise his role as a heroic inventor.
Posting on Instagram, Bay wrote: “It’s starting. This week production. Megatron is back’, alongside a clip of the snarling robot.
The film marks Anthony Hopkins’ second foray into big-budget franchises in recent years, after he previously featured in the Marvel Cinematic Appearance with an appearance as Odin, the father of Thor.
Transformers: The Last Knight is expected to hit cinemas on June 23, 2017.
