‘Skyfall’ director Sam Mendes confirmed to return for next Bond film

The 24th 007 movie has been given a UK release date of October 23, 2015

Skyfall‘s Sam Mendes is to direct Daniel Craig in the next Bond film after all.

Last year’s Skyfall has now become the most successful Bond film ever at the box office, grossing over $1.1 billion (£720 million) worldwide. Surprisingly, Mendes announced back in March (2013) that he wouldn’t be returning for the next instalment due to “theatre and other commitments”.

However, the director has now changed his mind and will reunite with Craig and John Logan, co-writer of Skyfall‘s screenplay, for the 24th film in the franchise. Longtime Bond producers Michael G Wilson and Barbara Broccoli confirmed their return in a press release, which also announced the release dates for the next 007 movie.

The 24th Bond film, currently untitled, will open in UK cinemas on October 23, 2015 before getting a US release on November 6 that year.

“I am very pleased that by giving me the time I need to honour all my theatre commitments, the producers have made it possible for me to direct Bond 24,” Mendes said in a press statement. “I very much look forward to taking up the reins again, and to working with Daniel Craig, Michael G Wilson and Barbara Broccoli for a second time.”

Meanwhile, Wilson and Broccoli added: “Following the extraordinary success of Skyfall we’re really excited to be working once again with Daniel Craig, Sam Mendes and John Logan.”
