This feature-length documentary follows the weed-loving star as he switches from rap to reggae
The upcoming film about Snoop Lion has been given a UK release date.
Titled Reincarnated, the feature-length documentary will premiere in UK cinemas on March 22. It follows the man born Calvin Broadus Jr as he reinvents himself from rapper Snoop Dogg into reggae singer Snoop Lion.
Directed by Andy Capper, global editor of Vice magazine as well as a filmmaker, Reincarnated promises “unpredecented access” to Snoop as he visits Trench Town, the Jamaican ghetto recognised as the birthplace of reggae music, and records his new album, also called ‘Reincarnated’.
The album, which has been executive produced by Major Lazer, is due for release this year and three tracks have already emerged. Click here to listen to ‘Lighters Up’, Snoop Lion’s most recent offering.
Even before their release, the Reincarnated film and album are attracting plenty of controversy. Earlier this month (January 2013), Snoop Lion was accused by Bunny Wailer, former drummer in The Wailers, of “fraudulently” appropriating Rastafari culture during his transition from rap to reggae.
