Sonic the Hedgehog film set to go into production

Sony reportedly working on live-action title based on his computer game

A movie version of Sonic The Hedgehog is believed to be in production.

Sony is reportedly working on a live-action film based on the blue character. The Hollywood Reporter states that the studio is in discussion with Japanese production company Marza Animation Planet to create a live action/ animation hybrid and that villainous Dr Eggman will feature.

“There are limitless stories to tell with a character like Sonic the Hedgehog and a built-in international fan base,” Columbia Pictures president of production Hannah Minghella is quoted as saying. “Along with our wonderful creative partners at Marza, we’re looking to capture everything that generations of fans know and love about Sonic while also growing his audience wider than ever before.”

Evan Susser and Van Robichaux are writing the screenplay, though the film currently has no release date. Sony’s previous forays into the hybrid world of live action/ animation hybrid titles has seen two Smurfs films made since 2011.
