Sony confirms ‘Spider-Man’ spin-off films

Venom and Sinister Six flicks in the pipeline

Sony have confirmed plans to extend its Spider-Man universe with a series of spin-off films.

The studio has revealed that they will make a stand-alone film featuring the Spider-Man character Venom as well as an ensemble piece based on The Sinister Six, a group of half-a-dozen super villains in the Marvel Comics universe. Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci, who are also slated to write Spider-Man 3, will pen the script for the Venom film, while Drew Goddard will write and direct the Sinister Six spin-off.

As Total Film reports, Columbia President Doug Belgrad said: “The Spider-Man film franchise is one of our studio’s greatest assets. We are thrilled with the creative team we have assembled to delve more deeply into the world.”

Director Marc Webb finished shooting The Amazing Spider-Man 2 in June of this year and the film is set to open worldwide on May 2, 2014. Andrew Garfield is back as Peter Parker and Emma Stone reprises her role as Gwen Stacy, while Jamie Foxx will play the villainous Electro.

Alongside Foxx, Chronicle star Dane DeHaan is another new addition to the cast and plays Harry Osborn, Peter Parker’s best friend. To watch a trailer for the film, click below.
